Q: Are there any definitive rules, either from Srila Prabhupada or some shastra (preferably one used or referred to by Srila Prabhuapda) that defines the placement of Srila Prabupada’s murti in an ISKCON temple and where the SB class speaker and audience should be seated? Are there any absolute prohibitions in this regards that forbid any particular placement? How many temples out there have Srila Prabhupada on the right side of the room when facing the altar (such as one finds in Dallas and New Vrindaban)?

 
 

Prabhupada definitely wanted his vyasasana placed either with his left hand side to the deity, or facing the deities from directly opposite.

When Srila Prabhupada came to America, he brought with him the translation of the First Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam. As a new devotee, I heard so many times that, “Everything you need to know to go back to Godhead is within the First Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam. So, learn the First Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam very thoroughly and everything you need to know to go back to Godhead will be there.” That was pretty encouraging. As you become more and more familiar with the First Canto, you can understand that it’s true! Everything you need to know!

In the Padma Purana it is described that after Krishna departed, Srimad Bhagavatam appeared. Just like when the sun sets on the western horizon, the moon may appear on the eastern horizon in due course of time. When the full moon shines as brilliantly as the sun but gives cooling and soothing rays, as opposed to the hot scorching rays of the sun, this is like the appearance of Srimad Bhagavatam.

 Having material attachments is not an offense. It is, however, an offense to consciously, deliberately, and complacently maintain those attachments to the temporary and to the material circumstances of life. We are to act dutifully and use those things in relationship to Krishna with a view of becoming attached to Him. That is proper.

 “Our engagement in devotional service is dependent upon Radharani’s compassion. The internal potency extended to us as the opportunity to engage in Krsna’s service is Radharani’s mercy. Devotees who understand this pray to Srimati Radharani for Her mercy. She goes out of Her way to extend Her mercy. On Her appearance day, we can appeal to Her to continue to be engaged in Krsna’s service by Her mercy.”

Q: For some, Balarama’s age is a controversy. 1 year is mentioned in Brahma-vaivarta Purana, Krishna-janma-khanda 13.235.

However, many Gaudiya vaisnavas say this contradicts other descriptions. Most acaryas seem to concur that the difference was just a few days.

Prabhupada came with a message. The message is revival of Krsna Consciousness. Message is the message of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. The message is to take shelter of the holy name, and the purification that comes to one who sincerely takes shelter of the holy name, that will awaken self realization and God realization very quickly!

The capacity for spiritual strength to carry out service comes from Balarama. That is what His name means; “Bala” means strength, spiritual strength. Through His mercy and through Radha’s mercy, we become inspired to carry out the service. We cannot do without strength. That’s obvious. We get tossed around by waves of material energy really easy. We need strength and we need direction that comes from Balarama, the original spiritual master.

Part of helping others to become Krishna Conscious is to have loving relationships with other devotees. It is pleasing to our Founder Acarya to do what he wanted and what he wanted was to spread Krishna consciousness, but that is just one half. Not only did he want more devotees, he wanted happier devotees. and happy devotees are those who are feeling fulfilled in their relationships amongst each other.
