Srila Prabhupada

Summary: Below you will find three distinct moods exhibited by Srila Prabhupada wherein he is instructing specific devotees in specific circumstances on the need to push forward the message of Godhead very clearly and strongly. While his moods reflect different time-place-circumstance considerations, note with great care the uniform focus and intensity with which Srila Prabhupada wished to see the message of Krishna consciousness advanced further!

Reading Assignment If just 1% of the Population becomes Krishna conscious...!

a) Lecture on Srimad-Bhagavatam 5.5.2, Boston, April 28, 1969:

And at least if one percent of the whole population becomes Krsna conscious, the whole world will be a different world. There will be..., uh... The world itself will become kingdom of God. Of course, we cannot expect that everyone will accept this philosophy, but we are trying. If some percentage of the population takes this movement seriously, the face of the world will be changed.

b) General lecture, LA, Dec 4, 1968:

Krsna consciousness movement is to overhaul the current degraded society

Summary: While perfectly respectful in observing ordinary protocol, Srila Prabhupada was 100% fixed in his conviction as to the mission of his spiritual master and Lord Caitanya. His sense of urgency was compelling and consistent. While trying to reach out to the leaders of the world with Lord Caitanya's message and the teachings of Srimad-Bhagavatam, he maintained an absolutely clear focus upon his most compassionate and high-reaching objectives. Srila Prabhupada's mission was a rescue mission. It was inspired by his guru maharaja, and pleasing SBSST, our acaryas and Krishna were his only measures of success. He did not waver over the years as to his objectives and his urgency.

Srila Prabhupada

Summary: Srila Prabhupada was very strict in his NOT taking interest in cheaply presenting Krishna to the public. Scholars and materialists both take Krishna cheaply, which Srila Prabhupada detected and spoke sharply about. These two incidents give us a glimpse into the nature of this strictness.

Valiant Srila Prabhupada

Summary: Often we hear of "the good old days in Krsna Consciousness". One of the most notable features of the dynamism of Srila Prabhupada's time was his indomitable spirit as a preacher of KC'ness. Here are some quotes which disclose his contagious mood, and how even non-devotees admired his spirit of preaching, a true follower of Lord Nityananda, whose only meditation in life was to give the mercy of the Most Merciful to one and all. He cared very deeply for those he rescued, and he trained them, in turn, to care very deeply for all other devotees of the Lord.

Srila Prabhupada a perfect leader

Summary:  During the Festival of Inspiration Peter Burwash presented a number of very inspirational quotes from Srila Prabhupada in the course of his talk, but he was moving so swiftly that it was hard to capture in notes the exact quotes. I later requested him to provide me with the exact quotes he used; below are the Prabhupada quotes that I requested.

Inspiration becomes lasting when applied. See if one of the quotes below PARTICULARLY resonates with you. Then try to apply it over time. I especially like the very last one on this list [much like #5, and "Understand the potential that others have."]

Srila Prabhupada requested all of us in ISKCON to keep the preaching going that he began. He made specific reference to the Indian Railway motto: "Keep the wheels turning" - posted in the offices - so that everyone would feel responsible to keep the trains running nicely. In the same way, he alluded, everyone in ISKCON should feel responsible to keep the preaching going.

Maharaja with Srila Prabhupada

Faith in one's spiritual master is life. It can carry one all the way to Krishna without a doubt, and in between it can empower one to do that which one cannot do otherwise. The following is from Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakur's commentary on the vyavasayatmika-buddhi verse of Bhagavad Gita [2.41], the potency of which propelled Srila Prabhupada all the way to the other side of the planet, following the order of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur. Srila Prabhupada read this commentary while preparing his Bhagavad Gita purports in India. He explained the affect upon him when reading what Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakur wrote: he felt absolutely compelled to somehow execute his guru-given "mission impossible" with full confidence and conviction.
