When we think of Krsna, we think of this beautiful form, tri-bhanga lalitam syamasundara, Krsna who's standing in His three-fold bending form, beautiful in color like a darkish rain cloud, holding his vamsi (flute), and attracting with His flute-sound the hearts and the minds of all the residents of Vraja. Not only the human beings - the gopis and the gopas - the cows, the peacocks, the trees, the creepers, the birds, even the river Yamuna. When the river Yamuna hears Krsna playing on His flute, she stops flowing to hear the sound of Krsna's flute. The birds that are flying in the sky, they can't fly anymore. They fall to the ground stunned, hearing Krsna's flute.

Q) How can one be a better instrument of a great soul who is empowered by Krishna to do wonderful things?
A) Life circumstances are very different for different individuals. Being an instrument of a great personality does not necessarily mean becoming the executor of the services immediately on their left side or right side. It may be more remote. That was my service in relation to Srila Prabhupada, so I can speak from my own experience.

Understand the message, and understand the mood of that great personality, and live it! We may be physically or geographically remote, but be a walking or a perambulatory emissary wherever you are. Exemplify their teachings, and in that way you are an instrument.

Q) In the beginning, should we concentrate more on our purification, or should we concentrate more on Krishna's pleasure?

A) Why not put both of them together - i.e. concentrate on purification for Krishna's pleasure? Purification represents goodness and Krishna's pleasure represents transcendence. So, when we begin any undertaking, begin with the end in mind. Srila Prabhupada explains that when we define a goal, and when we have clear sense of the goal, it becomes very easy to take steps to traverse to get to that goal. Conversely, if we do not have clear understanding and clear conception of the goal, it is pretty hard to have the motivation to get to the goal. So, having a clear sense of the goal is very important - and that goal is that 'Krishna should be pleased'.

When Caitanya Mahaprabhu saw Paramananda Puri, He raised his arms and cried out very loudly, "Hari Hari! I have finally seen Paramananda Puri with my own eyes. My eyes have been fulfilled. My life has finally become perfected. All my religious works have finally born fruit. My sannyasa has been fulfilled. I am seeing Madhavendra Puri himself!"

A great soul so much represents the person they are representing that within that person you see the great soul they represent. At least, that is how it should be. Some of you are disciples of Tamala Krsna Maharaja, some of you are disciples of Jayapataka Maharaja, and some of you are disciples of Gopala Krsna Maharaja, and this Maharaja and that Maharaja.
