Kuresha was a very exalted disciple of Srila Ramanujacarya. He gave his eyes for his spiritual master. He said, "My life and soul are Ramanujacarya.

There is nothing in my heart other than service to Ramanujacarya. Just like a shoe…there is no business of the shoe but to serve the foot. Sometimes the shoe is put behind the door by the person who owns the shoe, and when it is the appropriate time, he'll come back, gather the shoe, put the shoe on his foot again, and use the shoe."

Acaryavan is one who has a spiritual master. Acaryavan puruso veda. The sruti mantras say that one who has a spiritual master knows the Supreme Person. That is the duty of one who has a spiritual master - to know who the Supreme Person is. One who has a spiritual master receives that understanding of the Supreme Person.

Q: How can I develop great determination on the path of devotional service? Is it by increasing discipline?

A: Disciple means discipline, but discipline alone makes the heart hard. Discipline is important, but the rule of discipline is gratitude or love. That makes the heart soft and it is more effective. When there is gratitude and love, one does not skip a beat in fulfilling that which the person who one is feeling great gratitude and love for desires.
