HH Romapada Swami in Guyana Jan 2008

His Holiness Romapada Swami (Maharaja) visited us here, in the Carribean islands, from Jan 7th to 17th. We received him at the airport in Georgetown, Guyana on Monday 7th at 8:30 am, in extreme rainy conditions. The rain here is probably better than the cold in NY. Because Guyana lies near the equator, the days and nights are equal - sun sets at 6 pm and rises at 6 am the entire year, with the temperature throughout the year being 78-80 degrees F..

Monday January 05, 2009
His Holiness Srila Romapada Swami arrived in Georgetown, Guyana, on Monday, January 05, at 9:40 am, aboard Caribbean Airlines flight # 425 from JFK, after a brief stopover in Trinidad. At the Airport Maharaja was greeted by many disciples, all carrying garlands made from lotuses, gardenias, and roses. Maharaja was accompanied from New York by his Guyanese disciple, Upananda das, who also traveled with Maharaja on his last visit a year ago. He was driven to the temple by the temple president, Tridandi Goswami Prabhu, in his new Toyota RAV-4.

Sri Sri Nitai Chaitanya Chandra of ISKCON Guyana

His Holiness Srila Romapada Swami visited Guyana for the first time in 2000, when he came as special guest for the opening of the Sri Sri Gaura Nitai Ashirvaad Mandir, ISKCON’s main temple just outside of the capital city of Georgetown. Maharaja visited again in 2002 for the opening of another temple in the county of Essequibo. Since then, he has been visiting every year in January, just after the celebration of his Vyasa-puja in late December. This year, because of his expanded GBC services, his scheduled visit was postponed by three months—from March 22-29, 2011.
