It is very easy to get involved in something when you are hands-on, managing something as a ksatriya, and to lose track of the principles of religion and how to apply those principles in different circumstances. It can get very delicate. So, guidance is necessary by those who are very pure, the brahmanas. Their guidance is not political; their guidance is on scriptural basis and is practical:  jñānaḿ vijñānam āstikyaḿ brahma-karma svabhāva-jam[BG 18.42].

Adapted from a lecture given by His Holiness Romapada Swami on SB 1.3.41-42, given on March 14, 2008 in HoffmanEstates.

Those of you who are receiving guidance, please, please, please, be very tuned into the fact that you are one day going to be giving guidance to other people. So receive very carefully, so that you know how to properly give guidance, not only information. It's not only important that you don't advise somebody the wrong information -- turn right instead of left -- but the manner in which the understandings are passed on is of essential value. In other words, the loving relationships with those who you are receiving from, and in turn with others who you will be called upon to create the same, are of primary importance. Creating loving relationships is priority not just with new devotees, but with all devotees.

Q. When should we take guidance? Which situations should we take decisions on ourselves, and which questions should we present to senior devotees and consult with them about?
