demigods offer prayers.JPG

Summary: The entire set of prayers by the demigods to Lord Krishna in the womb runs from texts 26 to 41. This assignment, in anticipation of Krishna Janmastami, covers just 3 of the 16 texts of prayers. Krishna's various appearances in this world provide the residents here with His merciful lotus feet, which give protection to the pious and destruction to the duskritis.

Haridas Thakur's mercy

Summary: The highlight of this section is summarized in the last purport of this reading assignment: the sign of a real spiritual master is that he transforms the hearts of those who take shelter of him. He changes their character. This is a very demanding service. To *not* be prepared and qualified to do so is a disservice.

Srila Prabhupada
March 6, 2009

In this short passage, I wish to show how Srila Prabhupada uniquely and uncharacteristically reveals the super-confidential relationship that he had with his guru maharaja. Only by receiving the very special mercy of a great personality can one understand their inner feelings and purpose.

He wrote it on a palm leaf and stuck it unto the roof of his hut. The two verses are as follows.

Reading Assignment

How can one actually see the Lord?  The cause must be found. If one proposes that the Lord's mercy is the first cause, it can only be considered a secondary cause.  That mercy is not bestowed independently by the Lord to material persons suffering unlimitedly in samsara.  That is impossible.

Supreme Lord in His absolutely mysterious form as Lord Caitanya with His associates

Summary: This weeks reading assignment is from the introductory section of Sri Caitanya Caritamrta, in which Krishna das Kaviraj Goswami is outlining the mystery of the Pancatattva: how the Supreme Lord is simultaneously manifested in multiple personified features of the Supreme, who all engage in passtimes together in joyous love and devotion. While everything about the Absolute Truth is very deep and mysterious, the covered incarnation of the Lord as Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is absolutely and totally mysterious!
