"A lesson - avoid bad association. One of the ways to avoid bad association is through what you hear.  There are instructions what to do and what not to do, what to hear and what not to hear.  We are going to hear some of the glories of Lord Ramacandra as Dasaratha recites them. One of those glories is that He would never hear gramya-katha or talk amongst people in general (worldly topics).  Devotees should avoid those things. And if the conversation starts to move in the direction of criticism of a Vaisnava, we need to have some protocol hard wired into our system how to deal with that. We don't hear it. If you allow yourself to hear it, something happens. Even if you don't know if it's true - and likely it's not true because how many things have been said about someone that's not true - but then you start to look at that person in a different way, thinking maybe it's true.  So it is very contaminating!"
