  • Encounter with Srila Prabhupada
July 29, 2015

A gentleman in his sixties approached our table and remarked upon looking at the picture of Srila Prabhupada "I know him". When we asked him how, he narrated his amazing story of experience with Prabhupada. He said, "I was a kid when we were traveling on a flight from Japan. This man (Prabhupada) was seated near us on the flight. There were some hippies on the flight who were making too much noise. As a result, the air hostesses were not serving food and drinks and declared that until the hippies quietened, they won't serve anything to anyone. People were getting a bit restless. Suddenly my mom got up and approached this teacher (Prabhupada) and told him in Japanese: 'I know you don't understand what I'm saying but I also know that you can read my mind. If you can get these hippies to be quiet so my family can be served dinner, I'd be most grateful.' After saying this my mom went back to her seat.

The teacher (Prabhupada) didn't say anything to the hippies but they suddenly all became quiet in a couple minutes and stayed that way until the flight landed. Prabhupada then came and met my family and walked away. I still remember this person vividly and was very impressed by him. I'm so happy to see him again on this book." This gentleman had briefly met Prabhupada and had been touched by him so much that even after fifty years, he immediately recognized his picture. He took a few books and said he will read them.
