HH Romapada Swami & HG Dravida Prabhu in Chicago Dec 2009

His Holiness Romapada Swami Maharaja was in Chicago from the 23rd to the 27th of December 2009. Maharaja spoke on some very interesting topics such as humility and self confidence, self-acceptance and self-improvement, specifically addressing the apparent paradox. For the youth, Maharaja spoke on discovering our identity and finding our voices in Krishna Consciousness.

All the programs took place in the Kishore Kishori temple, where many devotees were accommodated for the weekend retreat. By Guru Puja each morning, there were many devotees already present. Maharaja entered, and before we knew it, we were all singing “Jaya Radha Madhava.”

HH Romapada Swami in Hyderabad Oct 2009

Srila Romapada Swami reached Hyderabad early morning 1:00 am. He arrived almost 5 hours late due to a strike in the Indian Airlines flight that he was supposed to board. We could see one of the many austerities that Maharaja takes to nourish us with his association. Next day in the morning Srimad Bhagavatam class he was welcomed by the radiant smiling faces of over 250 eager devotees. Maharaja complimented the smiling faces of devotees comparing them with a garden of Sun Flowers!

HH Romapada Swami in State College Sept 2009

23 Sep'09 Wednesday
Our minds were full with the wonderful experiences from the recent Japa retreat at Gita Nagari; our hearts were brimming with the loving exchanges we had with the devotees at the retreat and our focus had not yet shifted from the Holy Names. In short, this visit by Srila Romapada Swami Maharaja was awaited with great enthusiasm and eagerness by the handful of devotees here.

The following are some anecdotes from my attending the labor-day retreat in Gita Nagari.

Maharaja was swiftly walking to the Vyasasan to begin his lecture, when a devotee fell flat on his path and offered his obeisances for what appeared to be a relatively long duration. Maharaja stopped and patiently stood, and smiled at the devotee when he eventually got up, and exchanged pleasantries. Maharaja is very personal and values each and every devotee and his relationships with them.

During Tulasi-arati, Maharaja noticed that the devotee, who was the lead singer, was playing with unwieldy karatalas (cymbals). He handed his smaller karatalas to the devotee to enhance the sweetnees of the kirtan for the pleasure of Tulasi Devi.

Gita Nagari Sri Radha Damodar

September 3 2009
Devotees from all over the country trickled into the temple room, one-by-one, to attend the japa retreat. Some were locals from Gita Nagari, some from D.C., others from Boston, Pennsylvania, St. Louis, Detroit, Chicago, and other various places, and even two devotees from Vrindavana Dham! Everyone was super excited—despite the exhaustion from the long hours of travel—to attend the retreat, to improve the quality of their japa, to be in the association of devotees, and to strengthen their relationship with Srila Romapada Swami Maharaja through the process of hearing.

HH Romapada Swami

His Holiness Romapada Swami blessed the devotees of the Twin Cities area (Minneapolis/St Paul and suburbs, MN) with his invigorating association from Aug 6-10th this year. With Maharaja’s arrival at midday on a Thursday, the assembled devotees requested an istagosthi and question & answer style program for the evening. Maharaja complied, sharing insights from the recent ‘Building Bridges” conference in Washington DC as well as other highlights from the perspective of global ISKCON. Toward the end of the evening questions and answers prevailed and Maharaja again showed his awesome dexterity in delivering transcendental knowledge in clear, practical, and digestible sutras-like morsels of advice.

The Festival of the Holy Name this year was amazing! Srila Romapada Swami Maharaja's lectures appear to become more applicable and sweet with each passing year. This year, I was able to grasp so many teachings and apply them in my chanting.

Sri Radha Vrindavachandra, ISKCON New Vrindavan

Humility, tolerance, respect, renunciation and other divine qualities are natural ornaments of a Krishna conscious devotee. Maharaja exemplifies these qualities while setting a perfect example for us. Below are my recollections of some recent incidents that increased my appreciation for Maharaja’s wonderful qualities.
