My Dear Brahmananda,

October 9, 2013

Even though you have had no gayatri mantra, still you are more than brahmana. I am enclosing herewith your sacred thread, duly chanted on by me. Gayatri mantra is as follows: [TAKEN OUT] Ask your wife to chant this mantra and you hear it and if possible hold a fire ceremony as you have seen during your marriage and get this sacred thread on your body. Saradia, or any twice-initiated devotee, may perform the ceremony.

From a Letter to Vaikunthanatha, Saradia by Srila Prabhupada, Bombay 4 April, 1971

Dear Maharaja's and Prabhus,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

This fulfils an instruction of Srila Prabhupada's from 1972 - 41 years ago!

Your humble servant,

Hari-sauri dasa

Today I was distributing at San Bernardino College when a lady saw my book table, smiled, and came over. She was happy to see book distribution happening on campus and mentioned how she came to Krsna. Her and her husband were cleaning out her grandmothers house when he found an Science of Self Realization book, it looked interesting so he took it home and started reading it and sharing some of the interesting points with his wife. They were amazed and pleased to find such knowledge. When they finished the book they both agreed to be followers of Krsna and said, "So much for being Baptist, we're with Krsna now." She also received a Srimad Bhagavatam from me to add to her collection.

Your servant,

Vijaya Dasa

Distributing at Fullerton College in southern California, I motioned a student to come to my table. He came over, and I showed him illustrations and told him about the Bhagavad Gita.

He was interested, but then he said, "Yeah, it's interesting, but not today, maybe another time."

I said a few more persuasive things: "A wise man once said, 'If you don't learn something new about life every day you waste that day." And "There's always more to learn right? But you won't learn about these things in any courses at this university."

"What you're saying is true, but maybe another time."

On our Vaisnava calendar, Wednesday 18th Sept is Ananta Caturdasi Vrata and the disappearance day of Srila Haridasa Thakur.

Although it is not indicated on our calendar to do so, according to Srila Prabhupada we should fast till Sunset on Ananta Caturdasi, see reference below.

Fasting on Ananta Caturdasi

(11th March 1972 Vrindavana Room Conversation)

Prabhupada: Yes. Bhaktivinoda Thakura 13th, and 14th Ananta Caturdasi and Haridasa Thakura. So, this 14th September should be observed fasting, whole day. [those dates relate to 1972. Fasting whole day refers to Ananta Caturdasi]

Devotee: Fourteenth is the advent of or the demise of Haridasa Thakura?

Hare Krishna. It has come to my attention that some devotees in ISKCON, including disciples in good standing, are not clear about our Founder-acarya's views regarding his followers and disciples attending cinemas, movies, etc.

The attached file, if read carefully, will clear up any uncertainty.

"Yes, this attitude of surrendering to the Spiritual Master is the best qualification of spreading this movement of Lord Caitanya. That is the Vedic way. One should have unflinching faith in Krsna and similarly in the Spiritual Master. That is the way of understanding the secret of Krsna Consciousness. Unfortunately, attempt has been made lately in our Society to shake this formula. This mischievous attempt has done a great harm, but if you the members of the Governing Body Commission can rectify this mischievous attempt, then still there is hope of making our progress uninterruptedly. I hope Krsna will help us.

As a rule I distribute books in Delhi near the Metro stations. I stopped a middle-aged man who is a Sikh and offered him the Bhagavad Gita.

"No, no," he said. "I do not like Krishna."

"But, you know, sir," I replied, "Krishna likes you very much. Indeed, He is your only real friend. You don't have another friend except Krishna."

So this Sikh was surprised hearing these words, and after a few seconds of deliberation he replied, "Really, I don't have any time for reading, because I'm so busy."

"Yes sir, you are right," I told him. "This is our real imperfect arrangement of time: that we cannot find any time for the so important activities."

Then he started to smile and right away gave me donation for the Gita.
