  • Inquiries Into The Absolute

Everyone likes to inquire. Srila Prabhupada writes, "The whole world is full of questions and answers. The birds, beasts and men are all busy in the matter of perpetual questions and answers...Although they go on making such questions and answers for their whole lives, they are not at all satisfied. Satisfaction of the soul can only be obtained by questions and answers on the subject of Krishna." -- Purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 1.2.5

"Inquiries into the Absolute" is a wonderful opportunity provided by Srila Romapada Swami to help us fruitfully engage our propensity to inquire and seek answers. Please take advantage!

For offline reading, please download all the digests in pdf format by clicking here.

Q: What will happen to the offenses committed after initiation? Will the Lord punish us for the offenses after the end of the life and do we have to suffer the offenses and take birth? Also, because of this will a devotee loses the opportunity to go back home back to Godhead?
Are there any prayers I can pray daily to overcome the offenses and please the Lord apart from chanting 16 rounds? Please clarify.

Q: May I be blessed in knowing which is more ancient - The Shiva Puran or The Vishnu Puran

They are equally old! Both are compiled by Veda Vyasa.

Q: I'm a neophyte in the path of Bhakti. There are a few doubts, which are troubling me. Could you clarify them please? I was searching for the scriptural references to these statements. Prabhupada has said in a few places but I will be grateful for the scriptural references.
1.The reactions of the actions of the disciples is borne by the guru..If the disciple is not delivered, guru has to take birth again and again to liberate the disciple.
                                                                    2. Without getting formal initiation one doesn't get Krsna prema, even if he may get a lot of potency.

Q: In CC Adi 17.167 Caitanya Mahaprabhu criticizes Islam as being illogical to Chand Kazi "There are many mistakes and illusions in your scriptures. Their compilers, not knowing the essence of knowledge, gave orders that were against reason and argument.” But in prior verse i.e. 166, he states " Cow-killers are condemned to rot in hellish life for as many thousands of years as there are hairs on the body of the cow" which is even more illogical and unjust punishment by any standard of Christian scriptures, which is an eye for an eye , a tooth for a tooth.

Q: I have this following question on Iso Mantra 5

                                                                  tad ejati tan naijati

                                                                  tad dure tad v antike

                                                                  tad antar asya sarvasyaIn

                                                                  tad u sarvasyasya bahyata?

What is the meaning of "The Supreme Lord walks and does not walk"

                                                                  Q.  While preaching/discussing with a devotee, the following question came up. Does Lord Ganesha belong to the category Jiva Tattva? Also does Goddess Saraswati belong to the category of Shakti tattva? Are they eternal? One consequent question is - we know Lord Brahma belongs to the category of Jiva Tattva and if Goddess Saraswati is eternal, how is it that she will serve a different person as husband for every creation?  Understanding this will help in preaching to Indians, so I am asking this. Please forgive me if I could not address these exalted personalities properly.

                                                                  Q.  I have a question regarding initiation names. Usually initiation names are given as Krishna/Devotee's Das for Male devotees and Radharani/Devotee's Dasi for Female Devotee's. Does this name have any special significance apart from indicating being Servant of Krishna/Radharani/devotee? Also, during discussion with a devotee, this question came up, if the name is eternal (indicating the servant of the particular form/feature of the lord/devotee)- the female devotees will all be female forms in the spiritual world(Dasi) and male devotee's will all be male forms(Das) ?

                                                                  Q.  I was having discussion with one of my known friends who is running his own church. I was explaining about our Vedic philosophy. When the discussion came about soul, he asked me again ~ am I talking about spirit or soul? I said both are the same. In reply, he explained they both are completely different. He said, Spirit is the one within the body whereas soul is made up of mind, emotions and consciousness. Often we refer simply as soul or we refer to the ‘self’ as spirit soul. I humbly request you to clear up this question.

                                                                  Q.  Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita that whatever one thinks at the time of death leads to his next body. My question is: what if someone dies in an accident or is completely unconscious at the time of leaving his body, although that person was a very pious devotee during his lifetime? What kind of body would such a person get in each of these situations?
